Certified Home Health Aide/Baby Nurse

This program is designed to educate students with the knowledge and skills required to be home health aide. Students will learn through classroom and clinical training how to provide in home support to elderly and ill persons in the community. Instructions will include education on basic health care, customer service, social perceptiveness, medicine and dentistry, active listening, and judgment and decision-making. Home health aides are responsible for providing direct bedside care to patients and also perform a variety of miscellaneous duties as requested, such as obtaining household supplies and running errands.

This program will be extended with 20 more hours for those students interested in baby nurse training. Students will have instruction on how to assist mothers with breastfeeding/formula, sleeping/feeding schedules, baby’s cord/bris care, bathing and hair washing, and baby laundry.

Home Health Aide is one of the fastest growing professions in this country. One of the main reasons for this for this is that older adults, the main recipients of home care are the fastest growing population in the country. People are living longer due to the advances of health care and modern technology. Another reason is the high cost of hospital care and the trend on the part of providers and prayers to keep costs down. The demand for home health aides is expected to increase greatly in the coming years, as the “Baby Boomer” generation continues to move into senior years.

After graduation the students will prepared to take the state-licensing exam. After successful completion of the exam, the graduate will have the ability to obtain an entry-level position with a licensed home health agency.

Prerequisites: High School Diploma or Equivalent as determined by the NJ Department of Education. If the prospective student does not have a HS diploma or Equivalent, he/she will need to show evidence of at least an 11th grade reading level as determined by the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), a state recognized test as indicated by the National Skills Standard Board.
