What is a Baby Nurse?

The role of a baby nurse is to help moms and dads of newborn infants experience a smooth and gratifying transition to parenthood. A trained specialist who comes into the home when the newborn leaves the hospital, a baby nurse helps care for and nurture infants and provides support, guidance and education for parents and families.

Baby nurses possess unique skills in all aspects of newborn care. This can be especially helpful for first-time parents, who will rely on this expertise and appreciate the additional support as they learn to respond to their baby’s needs and get much-needed rest. A baby nurse can offer guidance and assistance in establishing a schedule/routine, organizing the nursery, feeding, changing and bathing, and calming fussy babies. They also can provide advice on how to deal with common issues like colic, gas and excessive crying, which can be stressful for a new mom or dad.

Unless they are a licensed or registered nurse, a baby nurse is considered a non-medical professional. Many parents and agencies prefer to work with highly skilled, trained professionals who have a thorough knowledge of the current standards of newborn care. If you are about to give birth or have just had a baby and could use a little extra support, give us a call at 973-676-6300 and we’ll find the right level of support for you.
